

SPRING/BREAK 2023: Castaways

Castaways includes five artists from the New York area who met for the first time on the island of Crete. Recent works by Isabella Scott, Gabrielle Shelton, Mary Gagler, Kate Stone and Shelley Kirkwood include painting, alternative photographic processes, sculpture, mixed media, and sound installation. Together, the works investigate excess, exploring the tension created when natural and material richness slouches toward decay.

On the End of Every of Fork is a group show of painting, sculpture, and augmented reality video works featuring Brian Fick, David B. Frye, Mary Gagler, Carla Knopp, Steve Paddack, Gwendolyn Skaggs, and Martha Vaught. Works in On the End of Every Fork oppose the good-natured, peopled revelry in Manet’s Le Dejeuner sur L’herbe in favor of a slow burn beginning at the bedrock of human experience, the relationship of man and nature.

Seasons in Hell is David B. Frye’s third exhibition of solo work at SPRING/BREAK ART SHOW. He is returning with a body of works made in 2020 that depict devils in daily life in Hell. His painted wood panels are framed with striped mattress ticking fabric and depict symbolic narratives of the devil’s daily activities.
